Tragic Bike Path Collision Claims Life of 14-Year-Old Clayton Miller; Community in Mourning

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — A devastating accident has shaken the Egg Harbor Township community after a tragic collision claimed the life of 14-year-old Clayton Miller, a local boy remembered for his bright spirit, love of biking, and dreams of a promising future. The incident occurred earlier this week on a popular bike path near Ocean Heights Avenue, sending shockwaves of grief throughout South Jersey.

The Collision

According to Egg Harbor Township Police, the fatal accident happened when a vehicle operated by 47-year-old Laryssa Foschini, a resident of Philadelphia, veered off the road and struck Clayton, who was riding his bicycle along the designated bike path. First responders arrived at the scene within minutes and rendered immediate aid. Clayton was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Authorities have not yet released details about the cause of the crash, though investigators are examining possible contributing factors including driver impairment, distraction, or mechanical failure. Laryssa Foschini remained at the scene and is said to be cooperating with investigators.

A Promising Life Cut Short

Clayton Miller, a rising high school freshman, was known for his vibrant personality, kindness, and love for outdoor adventures—especially cycling. His teachers, friends, and neighbors describe him as a respectful, energetic teen with a contagious smile and a deep love for life.

“Clayton was the kind of kid who made friends with everyone,” said a family friend. “He loved to ride his bike, to explore, and to dream big. He had his whole life ahead of him.”

Clayton had recently joined his school’s track team and was looking forward to starting high school in the fall. His sudden loss has left classmates, teachers, and his entire community in a state of deep grief.

Outpouring of Grief and Support

In the wake of the tragedy, a growing memorial has emerged along the bike path where the accident occurred. Flowers, candles, handwritten notes, and a bicycle painted white—now a poignant symbol of remembrance—stand as tributes to Clayton’s life.

The Miller family released a statement expressing heartbreak and gratitude:

“Our family is devastated by the sudden loss of our beloved Clayton. He brought joy to our lives and to all who knew him. We are grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. We ask for privacy as we grieve.”

Local leaders, school officials, and clergy have also offered condolences. Egg Harbor Township Schools announced that grief counselors will be available for students and staff impacted by the news.

Investigation Ongoing

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department, in coordination with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, continues to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed at this time, and authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is underway.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for our community,” said Police Chief Michael Steinman. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the Miller family and are committed to a full and transparent investigation.”

A Community Reflects

The tragic death of Clayton Miller has prompted renewed calls for improved bike path safety, better barriers, and increased public awareness regarding pedestrian and cyclist protection.

Several community organizations are planning vigils and fundraisers to honor Clayton’s memory. A GoFundMe page has also been established to support the Miller family with funeral expenses and counseling resources.

“This could have been anyone’s child,” said a local parent at the memorial. “We must do more to protect our kids.”

As Egg Harbor Township grieves the loss of one of its youngest and brightest, the hope remains that through reflection, change, and love, Clayton’s memory will inspire safer roads and more compassionate communities.

Rest in Peace, Clayton. You will never be forgotten.
