Double Shooting Under Investigation on Detroit’s West Side

DETROIT, MI — July 19, 2025 — A tense scene unfolded late Friday evening on the city’s west side after Detroit Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 13500 block of Dale Street, located within the jurisdiction of DPD’s 6th Precinct.

According to initial reports, the first emergency call came in around 10:15 p.m., with a frantic caller telling dispatchers that his 48-year-old father had been shot. As additional calls came pouring in from the neighborhood, units from Detroit Fire Department’s Engine 57 and Medic 47 were also dispatched to the scene to assist with medical treatment and transport.

Upon arrival, officers from the 6th Precinct confirmed that two individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were found near a residence on Dale Street, both suffering from injuries consistent with a violent shooting. The conditions of the victims have not been officially released, but sources close to the investigation indicate that at least one of the individuals was in critical condition at the time of transport.

Details Still Emerging

Authorities have yet to confirm the circumstances that led to the shooting. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified at this time. Officers remained on the scene for several hours overnight, canvassing the area for evidence, interviewing witnesses, and gathering surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses.

Detectives with the Detroit Police Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit have taken over the investigation. It remains unclear whether the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident, a targeted act, or random violence. A family member on the scene was visibly distraught and declined to comment as police continued their investigation under the glow of flashing lights and crime scene tape.

Community Reaction

Residents of the west side neighborhood expressed shock and concern over the violence. Many described the area as relatively quiet, though others noted an increase in crime in recent months.

“This is heartbreaking,” one neighbor said. “I’ve lived on this street for more than 20 years, and to see something like this happen right outside — it’s scary. I just hope the victims pull through.”

Police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything — even if it seems insignificant — to come forward. The department emphasized the importance of community cooperation in helping solve violent crimes and ensuring the safety of Detroit neighborhoods.
