WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Wilmington Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic collision involving a pedestrian that occurred Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2025.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., WPD officers were dispatched to the intersection of Lennon Drive and Market Street following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers and emergency personnel located the injured pedestrian at the scene. The driver of the involved vehicle remained on-site and cooperated fully with responding officers.
The pedestrian was identified as 33-year-old Mathew Haskins, a resident of Wilmington. Haskins was transported to Novant Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The WPD Traffic Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the sequence of events that led to this tragic incident. At this time, no charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
