HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: 14-Year-Old Jakari Thompson Fatally Shot in Pine Bluff

Pine Bluff, AR (July 19, 2025) – The Pine Bluff community is mourning the tragic death of 14-year-old Jakari Thompson, who was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead in what police are now investigating as a homicide.

At approximately 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, Pine Bluff Police officers were dispatched to the area near 2501 South Maple Street following a report of a man down. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jakari lying in the grass across the street from the residence, unresponsive.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher responded to the scene and officially pronounced the teen deceased.

Authorities confirmed Jakari’s identity Sunday morning. At just 14 years old, his life was cut short far too soon, leaving family, friends, and neighbors devastated. Grief has rippled across the Pine Bluff community, where Jakari was known as a bright and kind-hearted young man with a promising future.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives with the Pine Bluff Police Department are actively working to determine what led to Jakari’s death. No suspects have been named at this time, and the investigation remains in its early stages.

“This is a heartbreaking loss,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We are following all leads and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
