It is with broken hearts and profound sorrow that we share the tragic news of the passing of Stirling Heriot, a beloved Year 12 student whose life was cut short in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, July 18, near his family’s property in Coonamble. Stirling’s sudden and untimely death has left a deep void within his family, school, and broader community, all of whom continue to grapple with the enormity of this loss.
Stirling was just 17 years old, but in those short years, he made a powerful impact that will resonate for years to come. Known and admired for his kindness, generosity, and genuine warmth, Stirling embodied the values of respect, compassion, and quiet leadership. Whether it was through a friendly greeting in the schoolyard, a helping hand to his peers, or a word of encouragement during challenging times, he left an impression of deep sincerity and character.
A valued member of the Baker Hake boarding house, Stirling formed close and lasting friendships with students from all year levels. His sense of camaraderie, maturity, and humility made him a natural source of support for those around him. Stirling had an incredible ability to make people feel seen and heard, and it is this rare gift that so many now mourn in his absence.
Stirling was a dedicated and engaged student who gave his all to every facet of school life. He was a member of the 2nd IV Rowing team, where his persistence, discipline, and quiet resolve earned him the respect of his coaches and teammates. His past involvement in Rugby and Cadets also reflected his determination to challenge himself physically and mentally, and to contribute wherever he could.
In the classroom, Stirling’s strengths shone especially brightly in Industrial Technology, a subject he not only excelled in but deeply enjoyed. For his major project, he had been designing and building a tandem-axle multipurpose farm trailer, intended for practical use on his family’s property—a clear reflection of his roots, his ingenuity, and his work ethic. This project, so full of promise and purpose, now stands as a poignant symbol of a life filled with potential.
Stirling’s loss is most acutely felt by his loving family, who were the foundation of his world and the greatest recipients of his love and loyalty. To the Heriot family, we extend our deepest condolences, love, and prayers. May you find strength in the community that surrounds you and peace in the memories you hold dear.
As a school and as individuals, we mourn together. Stirling’s Year 12 peers, his teachers, and everyone who knew him now share in a grief that cannot be easily put into words. In moments like these, we are reminded of the fragility of life, but also of the enduring strength of human connection and faith.
We acknowledge the pain and confusion that comes with such a tragedy, especially for those still growing and learning their way through life. And yet, amid the sorrow, we cling to a deeper hope—the kind of hope Stirling’s life so beautifully reflected. A hope rooted in grace, in community, and in the promise of something beyond what we can now see.
As we continue to support each other through this unimaginable time, we ask our wider community to lift up the Heriot family in prayer. May they be surrounded by comfort, love, and the gentle reminders that their son was cherished deeply and will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Stirling. Your legacy of quiet strength, compassion, and purpose will live on in the lives you touched. You are missed beyond measure and loved beyond words.
