OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (CBS12) — A quiet business in Oakland Park became the scene of a heartbreaking crime this week after a beloved spa employee was found shot to death inside her workplace. Authorities with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) have arrested 69-year-old Chris Luchenburg in connection with the fatal shooting of 54-year-old Cuiyun Fu, an employee at Health Spa One, located in the 2700 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a distress call around 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, regarding a possible deceased person inside the business. When deputies arrived at Suite 20 of Health Spa One, they discovered Fu’s lifeless body, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following initial assessments and the collection of surveillance and witness information, detectives quickly focused their investigation on Luchenburg, who was known to the victim and described as a “friend.” Evidence uncovered by BSO’s Violent Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response Unit and homicide detectives suggests that Luchenburg entered the spa on Wednesday morning, shot and killed Cuiyun Fu, and then left her body behind, undiscovered until the following day.
Authorities arrested Luchenburg and booked him into the BSO Main Jail on Friday morning, where he now faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm. Officials have not yet released details about a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community. Regular clients of Health Spa One expressed their devastation, describing Fu as a kind, gentle woman who was well-liked and respected. Many in the neighborhood are grappling with the sudden loss and are calling for justice to be served swiftly.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” said a nearby business owner. “To think something so violent could happen in a place that’s meant for peace and healing is horrifying.”
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage anyone who may have additional information about the case to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
As the investigation unfolds, the community mourns the loss of Cuiyun Fu, remembering her not only as a professional, but as a kind-hearted individual who brought comfort to many. A memorial is expected to be planned by loved ones in the coming days.
