UNION, S.C. — Authorities in the City of Union have launched an urgent manhunt for Charles Mark Young, a man now wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that took place Friday evening. Union police have confirmed that signed arrest warrants have been obtained for Young, who faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall male weighing approximately 192 pounds, is considered armed and dangerous. Law enforcement officials are urging the public not to approach him if spotted, but instead to immediately call 911 or local law enforcement.
The Incident
According to Union police, the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2025, when officers responded to a gunshot call in the area of West Henrietta Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim — later identified as Eric Johnson — lying in an open field behind South Pinckney Street. The victim had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene, and Johnson was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Despite lifesaving efforts, Eric Johnson succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
