With hearts heavy yet full of gratitude for a life well lived, the family and friends of Rebecca McGee, age 62, of Marion, Illinois, announce her peaceful passing on July 19, 2025, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by those who loved her most. A devoted wife, mother, sister, and caregiver, Rebecca’s legacy is etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born on March 5, 1963, to the late Bobby Lee Samples and Romalee (Lindsey) Samples, Rebecca grew up in a family rooted in faith, humility, and resilience. Those same values became the foundation for the life she would go on to build—one filled with kindness, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to her loved ones.
On July 12, 1985, Rebecca married David “Dave” McGee Jr., the love of her life and her constant companion. Their marriage of four decades was a living testament to the strength of love, commitment, and partnership. Together, they raised their son Chase McGee, forming a close-knit family that was the pride and joy of Rebecca’s life.
Professionally, Rebecca poured her heart into everything she did. A proud graduate with an associate’s degree, she devoted over 15 years as a physical therapy technician at Herrin Hospital. There, she became known not only for her technical skill but for her gentle hands, patient demeanor, and compassionate heart. Patients and colleagues alike respected and admired her for her genuine care and unwavering presence.
Before entering the healthcare field, Rebecca worked for several years as an assembler at Maytag, where she approached every task with the same dedication and quiet excellence that defined her character.
Rebecca was a woman who did not seek the spotlight—but whose presence always made a room warmer. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: time with her family, long conversations with friends, the satisfaction of hard work, and quiet evenings at home. Her strength was steady, her love constant, and her grace unshakable, even in the face of life’s challenges.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Lee and Romalee Samples, and her brother, Joe Samples, whom she dearly loved.
She is survived by those who will carry her memory forward with deep love and profound sorrow:

Along with a host of extended family members, friends, colleagues, and members of the Marion community whose lives she touched.
