CCPD Detectives Investigating Shooting That Leaves Man in Critical Condition and Woman Injured

Corpus Christi, TX — Chaos erupted late last night at a local convenience store at the intersection of 69th Street and Kearney, leaving one man in critical condition and a woman hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) is currently conducting an active investigation into the violent incident, which involved multiple suspects, gunfire, and a yet-uncaptured pair of individuals believed to be connected to the origin of the altercation.

According to CCPD officials, officers responded to a disturbance call just before midnight on Wednesday, arriving at a scene that was both fast-moving and confusing. Witnesses reported a loud argument inside the convenience store, escalating quickly into a physical confrontation that soon involved firearms. Surveillance footage and preliminary witness statements indicate that four individuals were engaged in the initial altercation.

At some point during the fight, one of the individuals—now identified as the male victim who is currently in critical condition—exited the store and rejoined a companion waiting in a nearby vehicle. In a disturbing turn of events, both men began firing their weapons at a nearby vehicle that was unrelated to the initial dispute. The barrage of gunfire struck a female bystander who had no connection to the suspects or the original altercation. She was rushed to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

In a dramatic twist, the man who had been part of the initial fight and later opened fire was himself struck by gunfire during the exchange. He sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition under medical supervision. His name is being withheld pending further investigation and out of respect for his family.

The second shooter—identified as the driver of the vehicle in which the injured man arrived—was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody without further incident. He now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place. Detectives are working to determine whether other charges, such as attempted murder or reckless endangerment, may be filed as the investigation unfolds.

“This was a reckless and dangerous incident that put innocent lives at risk,” said a CCPD spokesperson. “We’re thankful the female victim is expected to recover, but this could have ended in an even greater tragedy.”

CCPD detectives are actively searching for two additional individuals believed to have been involved in the original fight inside the convenience store. These persons of interest fled the scene before officers arrived and remain at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information about their identities or whereabouts to come forward.

The convenience store has since reopened, though with increased security presence. Investigators continue to review surveillance footage, collect forensic evidence, and interview witnesses. Police are also examining whether the individuals involved knew each other prior to the incident or if the confrontation was spontaneous.

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department at (361) 886-2600 or to submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (8477).

As this case develops, the CCPD is asking the public for patience and cooperation as they work to bring clarity to a violent night that has left a community shaken and seeking answers.
