Motorcyclist Tragically Killed in Union Parish Crash

UNION PARISH, La. — The community Woodville, Mississippi, and surrounding areas are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of David Voorhies, a 69-year-old motorcyclist who lost his life in a fatal crash on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Union Parish, Louisiana.

According to the Louisiana State Police Troop F, the accident occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 167, just south of Louisiana Highway 2, near the town of Bernice. Troopers responded swiftly to the scene after receiving reports of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Voorhies was operating a 2008 Honda motorcycle traveling northbound on Highway 167 when, for reasons still under investigation, his motorcycle veered off the roadway. Tragically, the motorcycle then collided with a cattle gate on the roadside.

Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Voorhies sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel. As per standard protocol, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted to the lab for further analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

At this time, no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident.

David Voorhies was well-known and respected in his community. A lifelong motorcycling enthusiast, he had a passion for the open road and enjoyed the freedom and joy that riding brought him. His tragic passing serves as a painful reminder of the risks motorcyclists face and the importance of safety precautions for all who share the road.

In their official statement, Louisiana State Police Troop F emphasized the need for all motorcyclists to consider enrolling in an approved motorcycle safety course, which teaches vital skills such as defensive riding techniques, hazard recognition, and emergency response strategies. These courses have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of injury and death in the event of a crash.

“Motorcycle safety courses can save lives,” the release noted. “We urge all riders, regardless of experience level, to take advantage of these programs and always ride with caution and awareness.”

The tragic loss of David Voorhies has left his family, friends, and fellow riders grieving deeply. His memory will be honored not only for his love of motorcycling but also for the kindness, wisdom, and strength of character he brought to those around him.

Funeral arrangements and memorial details are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days. As investigations continue, Troopers ask anyone with information related to the crash to come forward.

Rest in peace, David Voorhies.

Your spirit and love for the ride will never be forgotten.
