Scottsboro, Alabama – July 26, 2025 – A massive manhunt is underway in northeast Alabama after a Scottsboro Police officer was shot during a confrontation on Highway 72. Authorities have identified Daniel McCarn as the primary suspect in the shooting and are urging the public to remain vigilant as the search intensifies.
The incident unfolded early Saturday morning along a stretch of Highway 72, a major roadway that cuts through the heart of Scottsboro. According to preliminary reports, officers from the Scottsboro Police Department were responding to a situation involving a suspicious individual when the encounter quickly escalated into violence. During the interaction, one officer was shot and critically injured. The wounded officer was rushed to a nearby hospital where they remain under intensive medical care.
Investigators have since identified the suspect as Daniel McCarn, who is believed to have fled the scene on foot.
