TRAVERSE CITY, MI — July 26, 2025 — A violent incident at the Walmart Supercenter in Traverse City left several people injured after a stabbing attack Saturday afternoon. Authorities confirm that a suspect is now in custody.
The attack occurred just before 5 p.m. at the store located on Crossing Circle. Local emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of multiple stabbings. Police officers and paramedics responded quickly, tending to the victims and securing the area.
According to preliminary reports, at least seven people were stabbed, though the exact number has not been confirmed. Several victims suffered serious injuries, and first responders used tourniquets at the scene to stop excessive bleeding before victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Grand Traverse 911 Center issued a statement asking the public to avoid the Walmart area and nearby businesses, adding that the situation was under control and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been made public, was detained shortly after the attack. Investigators have not shared a motive and are continuing to review security footage and witness statements.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as shoppers and employees ran for cover. Some initial reports mistakenly mentioned gunfire, but police later confirmed the incident involved only a stabbing.
