LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Police have released new information following a shooting that occurred on the evening of Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Executive Inn, located near 44th Street and Avenue Q. The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Keyarie Wartson, who also goes by the name Jacob Wilson.
According to authorities, officers received a distress call around 6:46 p.m. regarding shots fired at the motel. Upon arrival, they found Wartson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite his injuries, Wartson managed to flee the scene of the initial gunfire and sought help in a nearby room within the complex.
Emergency medical personnel quickly arrived on scene and began life-saving efforts before transporting Wartson to University Medical Center. As of the latest available update, Jacob Wilson remains in critical but stable condition, and doctors are closely monitoring his recovery. While he faces a long road ahead, medical staff report he has shown signs of responsiveness, offering hope to loved ones and community members who are anxiously awaiting more positive news.
Investigators say the suspect is believed to be an unknown male who fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Witnesses are being interviewed, and the Lubbock Police Department is currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area to help identify the shooter. No arrests have been made, and a motive for the attack has not yet been determined.
