KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) has confirmed that a man who was critically injured in a shooting on July 20, 2025, has died from his injuries. The incident, which occurred just before midnight, is now being investigated as a homicide.
According to authorities, the adult male victim was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle in the late-night hours of July 20. At the time, police were not immediately able to determine the location of the shooting, and the victim’s condition was listed as critical. Over the following days, investigators worked to gather information and trace the circumstances surrounding the violent event.
Today, KCPD released a statement confirming the victim succumbed to his injuries. In light of his passing, the case has been reclassified as a homicide. Detectives now believe the shooting occurred in the area of 69th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue, a residential neighborhood located on the city’s east side.
No arrests have been made, and police have not yet released the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin.
“This is now an active and open homicide investigation,” said a KCPD spokesperson. “We urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, heard anything suspicious that night, or has surveillance footage from the area to come forward.”
