AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (July 26, 2025) — A devastating two-vehicle collision on Saturday evening has claimed the life of 28-year-old Summer Poole of New Ellenton, casting a wave of grief over the local motorcycle community and beyond.
According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:09 p.m. at the intersection of Whiskey Road and Chukker Creek Road. Poole, a devoted rider and beloved wife, was traveling southbound on her 2003 Honda motorcycle when a northbound Honda Civic attempted to turn left into her path. The sudden, violent impact left no time for evasive action.
Emergency responders were on the scene within minutes, but despite their efforts, Poole was tragically pronounced dead at the scene at 6:53 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled for next week in Newberry as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Though authorities have not yet confirmed the involvement of drugs or alcohol, Poole’s mother stated on social media that the driver of the Civic was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Poole’s death has sent shockwaves through her family, friends, and the wider riding community. She frequently rode alongside her husband, Billy Poole — a familiar sight to many locals who admired their bond and shared passion for the open road. The couple married in 2021, and those who knew them say their connection was marked by joy, devotion, and adventure.
As news of Summer’s passing spread, social media was quickly filled with emotional tributes and heartbroken messages from those whose lives she had touched.
“I can’t believe this. She was the sweetest person ever,” wrote Latoya Lester in a Facebook post accompanied by a photo of Summer smiling beside her husband. “RIP Summer Poole. My prayers are with you, Billy Poole.”
Others echoed the same disbelief and sorrow, including Deanett Moseley, who posted, “I just can’t believe this… My heart breaks for her husband and family. People, please remember motorcycles — yes, we’re not all bad and we have families too. Look out for us.”
The crash has reignited calls for greater awareness of motorcycle safety and for drivers to exercise caution and vigilance — especially when making turns across oncoming traffic.
Poole’s sudden death is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the risks that motorcyclists face every day on the road. Friends describe her as kind-hearted, generous, and full of light — someone who brought joy wherever she went.
“She loved deeply, laughed often, and had this incredible way of making everyone feel special,” said one family friend. “This loss is immeasurable.”
A memorial ride is already being discussed among local riders as a tribute to Summer’s life and legacy, with many calling for justice in her name. Details on funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in the coming days.
As her community mourns, Summer Poole will be remembered not only for the tragedy that ended her life too soon, but for the love and warmth she brought to those lucky enough to know her.
