Berlin Resident Jordan Jones Cited for Child Cruelty After Infant Found Alone

Berlin, Vermont – On the morning of Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Berlin Police Department responded to a distressing report regarding the safety of a young child left unsupervised at a home located on Airport Road. At approximately 1:29 a.m., officers received a complaint about an infant believed to be alone inside the residence. Responding officers conducted a brief but thorough investigation and confirmed that Jordan Jones, a 30-year-old resident of Berlin, had left his 17-month-old child alone for an undetermined amount of time.

Following the investigation, Jordan Jones was issued a citation to appear in Washington District Court this September, where he will face the charge of cruelty to a child under Vermont law.

Thankfully, the child was found physically unharmed. However, the Berlin Police Department takes such incidents extremely seriously due to the high risk they pose to a child’s safety and well-being.

The investigation was led by Senior Officer Levi Willey and Sergeant Mark Monteith, who ensured the child was safe and secured at the time of the response.

The department also issued the following clarification for the public:

“Please note that the Berlin Police Department does not have authority over matters involving bail or incarceration. These decisions are made by the Vermont Judicial System, including judges, court clerks, and the State’s Attorney’s Office.”

Jordan Jones will be required to answer to the allegations in court, where further legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the case.

Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Berlin Police Department.
