WACO, Texas — Early Morning Shooting on Park Street Leaves One Injured, Dayquon Scott Arrested

A quiet Saturday morning in Waco was shattered by gunfire in the early hours of July 27, prompting a swift police response and an active investigation into a shooting that left one person wounded.

According to Waco Police, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Park Street shortly before 3:30 a.m., after receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Terrance Mitchell suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders quickly rendered aid, and Mitchell was transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities later confirmed that while his injuries were serious, Terrance Mitchell is expected to survive and make a full recovery.

As investigators worked through the morning to gather evidence and speak with witnesses, information quickly led them to identify a suspect in the case. Later that same day, officers located and arrested 28-year-old Dayquon Scott in connection with the shooting. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police have not released specific details about what led to the altercation, though they have stated that the investigation is ongoing. It remains unclear whether Scott and Mitchell knew one another or if this was a targeted attack or a random act of violence. Charges against Scott are currently pending as detectives continue to collect statements and review evidence.

The incident has once again stirred concerns about gun violence in Waco neighborhoods. Residents on Park Street, a normally quiet area, awoke to the flashing lights of emergency vehicles and the sight of police tape cordoning off the street.

Waco Police are urging anyone with additional information, including surveillance footage or firsthand accounts, to contact the department as the investigation continues. Community involvement is often key in building a complete picture of what happened and ensuring that justice is served.

In the wake of this violence, many are grateful that Terrance Mitchell is expected to recover—but the emotional toll of yet another shooting continues to impact the broader Waco community.

This remains a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
