HARTFORD, CT – After nearly a year of relentless investigation and tireless dedication by law enforcement, a major breakthrough has been made in a tragic 2024 homicide case that shook the Capitol Avenue area of Hartford. On July 30, 2025, Hartford Police announced the arrest of 18-year-old Kaylon Williams in connection with the fatal shooting of Yakpoaro Kollie, which occurred in September 2024.
Kollie was discovered shot and unresponsive at the scene of the incident last year. Despite immediate efforts by first responders, he succumbed to his injuries, marking yet another heartbreaking act of violence in the community. The case has remained active and closely followed by both authorities and Kollie’s grieving family.
This week, Hartford Police executed an arrest warrant and took Williams into custody. He has been formally charged with Felony Murder as well as multiple additional offenses related to the incident. Authorities have not yet released full details of the additional charges, citing the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
Williams is currently being held on a $2 million bond. His initial court appearance is expected soon as the legal process begins to unfold. The arrest brings a measure of accountability and hope for justice to Kollie’s loved ones and the larger community.
Hartford Police expressed appreciation to the public for their patience and continued support during the lengthy investigation. They also acknowledged the tireless work of detectives, forensic teams, and community members who provided crucial leads and assistance over the last several months.
While the arrest is a critical development, police stress that the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with further information is urged to contact the Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division or submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
This arrest serves as a strong reminder of the Hartford Police Department’s commitment to seeking justice for every victim and holding perpetrators accountable—no matter how long it takes.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Yakpoaro Kollie, whose memory continues to guide the pursuit of peace and justice in Hartford.
