In Loving Memory of Chaz Zoey Williams, Kharis McGee, and Quentin Glass “What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” – Helen Keller

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking loss of three beloved members of our Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) family: Chaz Zoey Williams, Kharis McGee, and Quentin Glass. These bright, passionate, and promising students were not only integral parts of our university community, but they also left deep and lasting impressions on all who had the privilege of knowing them.

The pain of losing even one member of our Ramily is tremendous. To lose three at once is devastating beyond words. As we collectively grieve this unimaginable tragedy, we pause to reflect on the light, potential, and love each of these individuals brought into the world and onto our campus.

Chaz Zoey Williams

Chaz was known for their vibrant spirit, unwavering authenticity, and compassionate heart. They were a beacon of positivity, with a smile that could light up a room and a warmth that made others feel instantly seen and accepted. Chaz was deeply involved on campus, showing leadership and empathy in everything they pursued. Friends and professors alike recall Chaz as someone who brought people together and created space for others to feel safe and heard.

Kharis McGee

Kharis was a driven student, a kind soul, and a source of encouragement to peers. Whether in the classroom, in student organizations, or simply walking through campus, Kharis exuded a quiet strength and deep commitment to personal and academic growth. He was passionate about making a difference, not just in his field of study, but in the lives of those around him. He believed in lifting others as he climbed, and he did so with dignity, humility, and grace.

Quentin Glass

Quentin had a gentle soul, a brilliant mind, and a generous heart. He brought thoughtful insight to classroom discussions and always extended a helping hand to those in need. Known for his calm demeanor and wise perspective beyond his years, Quentin inspired both students and faculty alike. He was someone who truly listened, truly cared, and truly made the world a better place by simply being in it.

As we mourn the loss of these three remarkable young lives, we also celebrate the legacies they leave behind. Their time with us—though far too brief—was filled with purpose, connection, and undeniable impact. They challenged us to be better, to live fully, and to love more openly.

To their families: please know that you are not alone in this grief. The entire WSSU community stands with you, mourning alongside you and lifting you in love and prayer. We are grateful that your children chose to share their talents, dreams, and spirits with our university family.

To our students, faculty, and staff: this loss is immense, and it’s okay to grieve. We encourage you to lean on each other, to speak their names, to share their stories, and to support one another through this incredibly difficult time. Counseling and support services are available on campus, and we urge anyone who needs help to reach out.

A Time to Remember

Plans to honor the lives of Chaz, Kharis, and Quentin will be shared in the coming days. Memorials and remembrance events will provide space for us to come together, reflect, and celebrate the gifts each of these students brought to our campus.

Though their physical presence is no longer with us, their spirits will live on in the friendships they formed, the lessons they taught us, and the love they gave so freely. May we carry their memories forward in how we live our lives—with compassion, courage, and community.

Please join us in keeping their families, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as we walk together through this time of sorrow.

Rest in power, Chaz. Rest in peace, Kharis. Rest in grace, Quentin. You will always be a part of the Ramily.
