EASTON, PA — July 13, 2025 — The quiet calm of Easton’s South Side was violently disrupted in the early hours of Sunday morning when a barrage of gunfire erupted, injuring five individuals, including a woman who was shot in the back. The incident, which occurred shortly after 2 a.m., has shaken the tight-knit community and sparked urgent questions about safety, accountability, and the growing reach of violence in local neighborhoods.
According to Easton Police, the shooting unfolded near the 300 block of South Side’s residential corridor, where families were either winding down for the night or already asleep. That tranquility was shattered as multiple shots rang out, sending neighbors scrambling for cover and prompting a swift and overwhelming response from law enforcement and emergency services.
Among the five victims, one woman remains in serious condition after being shot in the back. Others sustained various injuries ranging from gunshot wounds to lacerations from debris caused by the chaotic scene. All victims were rushed to area hospitals, and while their names and conditions have not yet been publicly released, officials say they are expected to survive.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene of confusion and panic, with residents ducking behind cars, diving indoors, and calling 911 in desperation. Shell casings littered the street as investigators worked into the morning to piece together what led to the eruption of violence.
“We heard what sounded like fireworks, but then it just kept going,” said one resident who asked not to be identified. “Then we realized it wasn’t fireworks—it was gunfire. People were screaming, some were running, some were lying on the ground. It was chaos.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive for the shooting, and as of Sunday evening, no arrests have been made. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses and are urging anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward. The Easton Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force is leading the investigation, working closely with county and state law enforcement partners.
“This kind of violence has no place in our city,” said Easton Mayor Sal Panto Jr. in a statement issued Sunday afternoon. “We are heartbroken for those affected and outraged that such reckless disregard for human life continues to endanger our community. We will pursue justice for the victims and work to prevent anything like this from happening again.”
City leaders are planning a community meeting later this week to address growing concerns around crime and to provide resources for residents impacted by the shooting. Local organizations have also begun coordinating trauma response efforts and support services for victims’ families.
The shooting comes amid broader concerns about rising gun violence across smaller American cities, where once-quiet neighborhoods are increasingly facing the kinds of incidents once more commonly associated with larger urban centers. Easton, with its strong sense of community and historic charm, is not immune to this troubling trend—and Sunday’s incident has served as a painful reminder.
In the meantime, residents are left shaken, grappling with the fear that violence can strike at any moment—even in the places they call home.
“It’s terrifying,” said another neighbor. “We shouldn’t have to live like this. Our kids shouldn’t have to hear gunshots at night. We need answers, and we need change.”
As the investigation unfolds, Easton Police continue to urge anyone with information to contact their anonymous tip line or reach out directly to detectives. The hope is that justice will be swift—and that healing can begin for the South Side and the city as a whole.
