BREAKING: Kimberly Hedrick Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Fatal Crash That Killed Benita Vickers in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY — A deadly three-vehicle crash early Friday morning has led to the arrest of 55-year-old Kimberly Hedrick, who now faces charges of vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, following a collision that claimed the life of Benita Vickers, 55, of Corbin.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 1, 2025, along American Greeting Card Road, approximately 11 miles south of London, Kentucky. According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Hedrick was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling southbound when she crossed the centerline on a curve, crashing head-on into a Chevrolet Aveo being driven by Benita Vickers.

Vickers was critically injured in the impact and rushed to Baptist Health Corbin, where she later died from her injuries. A male passenger in her vehicle was also injured in the crash; his name and condition have not yet been released.

Following the head-on collision, Hedrick’s Tahoe struck a Hyundai SUV driven by 39-year-old David Wynn, also of Corbin. Two female passengers inside Wynn’s vehicle were taken to the hospital with injuries. Their identities and conditions remain undisclosed at this time.

Authorities say David Wynn fled the scene before deputies arrived. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that Wynn is currently wanted on an active warrant, and efforts are underway to locate him.

Hedrick was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in London with minor injuries. Deputies noted a strong odor of alcohol on her and slurred speech, leading them to believe she was impaired at the time of the crash. Upon her release from the hospital, she was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Vehicular Homicide While Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
  • Additional charges may follow as the investigation progresses.

She is currently being held at the Laurel County Correctional Center.

“Benita Vickers’ life was needlessly cut short,” said Sheriff Root. “This tragedy was preventable, and it’s a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and everyone affected.”

Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of David Wynn’s whereabouts to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office at 606-864-6600, or to message the department via Facebook.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Benita Vickers, a well-known resident of Corbin remembered for her warmth, compassion, and strength.
