Anaconda, MT – A manhunt is underway in southwest Montana following a mass shooting at the Owl Bar in Anaconda that left four people dead and several others injured. Law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal level are actively searching for Richard Brown and Michael “Mikey” Brown, who have been named as the primary suspects in the deadly attack.
VICTIMS IDENTIFIED
Authorities have confirmed the identities of the four individuals fatally shot in the attack:
- Daniel “Danny” Price, 42, of Anaconda
- Emily Rose Carter, 33, of Missoula
- Jeremy Lawson, 45, of Deer Lodge
- Kristen Leigh Moore, 29, of Butte
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene after shots rang out inside the Owl Bar just before midnight on July 31, 2025. Several others were injured, and at least two remain hospitalized.
DETAILS OF THE SHOOTING
According to eyewitnesses, the violence began after a confrontation inside the bar quickly escalated. The two suspects, believed to be brothers or close relatives, reportedly opened fire on patrons during what was described as a sudden and chaotic altercation.
Investigators say the suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Law enforcement responded within minutes, but the suspects had already vanished into the night.
SEARCH EFFORTS INTENSIFY
Earlier today, SWAT teams executed a search warrant at a home connected to one of the suspects, but neither Richard Brown, 31, nor Michael “Mikey” Brown, 28, were located.
Authorities believe Richard Brown may have hijacked a black Honda Accord with tinted windows and is likely traveling by car. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) has been issued for the vehicle. Residents are warned not to approach if they spot the car and to call 911 immediately.
Mikey Brown is believed to still be on foot, possibly hiding in the dense and rugged terrain surrounding the Anaconda area. The Granite County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating a wide-scale search using K9 units, aerial surveillance, drones, and ground teams.
“We believe both men are heavily armed and extremely dangerous,” said Sheriff Daniel Forrester. “This remains an active and very serious threat to public safety.”
FAMILY SPEAKS OUT
Jacob Burns, a family member of the suspects, spoke with Channel2 NOW, offering context amid circulating rumors. Burns denied speculation that the shooting stemmed from substance abuse.
“This wasn’t about alcohol,” he said. “Mikey has been struggling with severe and untreated mental health issues for years. We asked for help. We pleaded. But no one stepped in when it mattered most.”
He emphasized that while nothing excuses the violence, the tragedy should spark a larger conversation about mental health care access in rural communities.
