With heavy hearts and immense gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Bjorn Dragsbaek, a beloved husband, father, friend, and pillar of the Franklin, Massachusetts community. Bjorn, a longtime board member and leader of the Franklin Youth Soccer Association (FYSA), passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of service, mentorship, and unwavering devotion to youth sports and community growth.
Born and raised in Sherborn, Massachusetts, Bjorn was a graduate of Dover-Sherborn High School before attending Roger Williams University, where he continued to develop his values of teamwork, integrity, and leadership. After college, he built a beautiful life in Franklin, where he and his beloved wife Lynda raised their three children—Jamie, Laney, and Bryce—in a home filled with love, laughter, and commitment to one another.
Professionally, Bjorn worked with T-Mobile, where he was admired for his sharp intellect, strong work ethic, and natural ability to connect with others. But it was his deep involvement in the Franklin Youth Soccer Association that defined much of his public legacy. Over the years, Bjorn served the FYSA as a coach, board member, president, and referee, pouring thousands of volunteer hours into developing not only a premier soccer program but also a culture rooted in respect, fairness, inclusion, and mentorship.
To Bjorn, soccer wasn’t just a game—it was a pathway to building character and community. He coached with heart, patience, and purpose, guiding children and teens through not just the skills of the sport, but the lessons that would shape them off the field: teamwork, humility, perseverance, and accountability.
His passion extended to officiating, where he became a respected and steady presence on the field. Known for his calm demeanor and clear communication, Bjorn was especially committed to mentoring young referees, offering guidance and encouragement, and helping many develop confidence that would benefit them far beyond the pitch.
As a board member and leader, Bjorn’s contributions were both visionary and practical. Whether he was pushing for expanded access, advocating for better resources, or working behind the scenes to organize logistics and schedules, Bjorn did it all without seeking praise. He was the epitome of a servant leader—quiet, effective, and always grounded in the belief that sports can be a powerful force for good.
Above all, Bjorn was a family man. His love for Lynda and their children was the anchor of his life. He celebrated their successes, supported their dreams, and modeled the very values he worked to instill in others. Those close to him describe him as selfless, principled, and deeply kind—a man who showed up, who gave generously, and who left every space better than he found it.
The loss of Bjorn Dragsbaek is a profound one, not only for his family but for every young player he coached, every referee he mentored, every parent he collaborated with, and every neighbor who experienced his kindness.
The Franklin community mourns together, honoring a man whose legacy will endure through every game played, every child encouraged, and every act of quiet leadership that reflects his spirit.
In the coming days, information about memorial services and opportunities to support the Dragsbaek family will be made available. In the meantime, we remember and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much, asked so little in return, and made a lasting difference.
Rest in peace, Bjorn. Your light continues in the lives you touched and the hearts you lifted.
