CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR – August 2, 2025 — The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the evening of Friday, August 1, in the normally quiet neighborhood near SE Easthampton Street, located in unincorporated Clackamas County near Happy Valley.
At approximately 6:55 p.m., dispatchers received a distressing call from a woman reporting that her husband had been shot inside their home in the 12000 block of SE Easthampton Street. The call triggered an immediate response from Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical services.
Upon arrival at the residence, deputies encountered 72-year-old David Lynn Jurgenson, who was standing outside the home. Based on information gathered at the scene, law enforcement had reason to believe Jurgenson was the shooter. Deputies acted swiftly and safely took him into custody without incident.
Inside the residence, deputies located a 36-year-old man in the living room, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies initiated life-saving medical efforts until emergency medical crews arrived to take over treatment. Tragically, despite these efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
Before entering the home, deputies also ensured the safety of a woman and her young child, helping them exit the house unharmed. Their prompt actions helped prevent further potential harm as the scene unfolded.
Suspect in Custody
The suspect, David Lynn Jurgenson, was later booked into the Clackamas County Jail without bail. He faces charges of:
- Murder in the Second Degree
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Authorities have confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to one another, though the exact nature of their relationship has not yet been publicly disclosed. Investigators are working to establish a clear timeline and motive behind the deadly incident.
