Manhunt Underway: Michael Castellano-Fonseca Sought in Fatal Aurora Apartment Shooting That Left One Dead, One Critically Injured

AURORA, CO — A horrific act of violence has left one woman dead, another gravely injured, and a community reeling in Aurora after an early morning shooting at an apartment complex on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Police are actively searching for 30-year-old Michael Jordan Castellano-Fonseca, the suspected gunman, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

According to the Aurora Police Department (APD), the shooting occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the 1000 block of Cimarron Circle. Investigators say the attack stemmed from a suspected domestic violence incident involving Castellano-Fonseca and individuals at the residence.

Before the fatal shooting, Castellano-Fonseca had allegedly made threats to return to the apartment with a gun. Tragically, police say he followed through. Upon his return, Castellano-Fonseca reportedly forced his way inside the unit and opened fire.

At the time of the shooting, seven people were inside the apartment—two adult women and five children ranging in age from 1 to 15 years old.

One of the adult victims, a 26-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. A 30-year-old woman was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

Remarkably, none of the five children present in the apartment were physically injured, though police stress the severe emotional and psychological trauma endured by the young witnesses. Social services have been contacted to ensure the safety and support of the children as the investigation unfolds.

Aurora Police have named Michael Jordan Castellano-Fonseca as the primary suspect in the case. He is believed to be driving a green Acura MDX SUV with Colorado license plate CVO668. Authorities urge the public not to approach him if spotted and to call 911 immediately.

Law enforcement officials describe Castellano-Fonseca as potentially armed and highly dangerous. APD detectives, working in coordination with other agencies, are prioritizing efforts to locate and apprehend him swiftly.

“This act of senseless violence is deeply disturbing,” said an Aurora Police spokesperson. “We will not rest until this suspect is found and held accountable for his actions. Our hearts go out to the families impacted by this tragedy.”

As of Sunday evening, the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities are pursuing leads to determine the nature of Castellano-Fonseca’s relationship with the victims and what led to the escalation of violence.

The apartment complex where the shooting occurred was temporarily closed off as crime scene investigators worked throughout the day. Neighbors expressed shock and fear, saying the quiet residential area had never seen violence of this magnitude before.

Advocates for domestic violence awareness are urging communities to remain vigilant and report early signs of threats or abusive behavior. “This tragedy underscores the importance of recognizing and acting on warning signs before they turn deadly,” said a representative from a local domestic violence shelter.

Anyone with information on Castellano-Fonseca’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Aurora Police Department or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). Tips can remain anonymous, and a reward may be available for information leading to his arrest.

As the search continues, the Aurora community mourns the life lost and hopes for justice and healing in the wake of this devastating incident.
