“THEY SHOT MY SON OVER A GOLD CHAIN” – HEARTBROKEN MOTHER SPEAKS OUT AS TEEN FIGHTS FOR LIFE IN CORPUS CHRISTI SHOOTING

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — A mother is racing against time, mid-air on a plane bound for Corpus Christi, gripped by fear and anguish after receiving the call every parent dreads. Her 19-year-old son, John Michael Gomez Jr.—affectionately known by friends and family as “Johnny Boy”—was shot multiple times during a violent attempted robbery late Saturday night at a house party in the Kings Crossing neighborhood.

The shooting occurred at approximately 11:30 PM on the 7800 block of Beauvais Drive, just off Oso Parkway. According to preliminary reports, the incident unfolded during what was supposed to be a celebration—a high school cheerleading party filled with music, laughter, and summer energy. But the night quickly turned into a nightmare.

Johnny Boy, a recent high school graduate with aspirations of becoming a music producer, was reportedly called out into the backyard of the home where the party was taking place. According to his mother, three individuals approached him with violent intentions.

“One of them put a gun to his stomach. Another one told him to hand over his gold chain, and the third tried to grab it off his neck,” she told The Crónica, her voice shaking with emotion. “My son fought back. He wasn’t just going to hand it over. That’s who he is. He threw a punch, and that’s when they shot him.”

Johnny was shot a total of four times—twice in his neck and back. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he immediately underwent emergency surgery. As of Sunday morning, he remains in the operating room for a second procedure after doctors discovered additional internal injuries.

Through tears, his mother recounted the words that haunt her: “They shot my son because they were trying to steal his chain. Police told us next time to give it up… but they don’t know my son. He fought back.”

First responders were alerted to the scene by a woman identified as “Jeanntre,” a well-known local supporter of the cheerleading community. Her quick call to 911 is credited with helping save Johnny’s life by getting medical help to the scene quickly.

Authorities are still working to identify the suspects involved. Police have confirmed that one of the shooters is believed to be a teenage male, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward. Surveillance footage from surrounding homes is being reviewed, and witnesses are being interviewed in what investigators are calling a “high-priority case.”

The Kings Crossing neighborhood, known for its quiet streets and tight-knit community, is now rattled. Residents are grappling with the reality that such violence erupted at a youth gathering.

Johnny’s family, friends, and neighbors have begun holding prayer vigils outside the hospital and on social media, calling for justice and healing. The hashtag #PrayersForJohnnyBoy has been circulating widely, with hundreds expressing their heartbreak and solidarity.

Johnny’s condition remains critical but stable. His mother, speaking from the airplane en route to Texas, is holding onto hope.

“I just want to be by his side. I want him to hear my voice. He’s a fighter—I know he is. But no mother should ever have to get a call like that. No mother should have to hear that her son was shot over a piece of jewelry.”

This devastating incident is a tragic reminder of the senseless violence that continues to affect young people across the country. As Johnny Boy fights for his life, the community waits, prays, and demands answers.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact Corpus Christi Police or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (8477).

Prayers for Johnny Boy. Justice for Johnny.
