Savannah Community Grieves Loss of 18-Year-Old Darius Coleman in Tragic Triple Shooting

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA — August 4, 2025 — A sense of shock and grief has swept across Savannah following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 18-year-old Darius Coleman late Saturday evening. The violent incident occurred outside a local food mart, leaving two others seriously injured and a community desperate for answers.

According to the Savannah Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene just after 10:00 p.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near the intersection of Waters Avenue and 52nd Street, where the food mart is located. Upon arrival, officers found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Darius Coleman, a recent high school graduate and aspiring electrician, was pronounced deceased at the scene despite immediate life-saving efforts from emergency responders. Friends and family describe Darius as kind-hearted, focused, and full of potential—someone who had plans for a bright future and a strong support system behind him.

The two other victims, whose identities have not yet been released, were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where they are currently receiving treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both remain under observation, and their conditions have not been publicly updated as of Monday morning.

Authorities believe the shooting may not have been random, although no suspects have been identified or taken into custody at this time. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events that led to the violence.

In a statement released Sunday, Savannah Police urged anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the shooting to come forward. Community cooperation, they say, is critical in bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of local neighborhoods.

“This is a heartbreaking and senseless act of violence,” said a spokesperson for the department. “An 18-year-old with his whole life ahead of him is now gone, and two more individuals are recovering from severe injuries. We are asking anyone with information—no matter how small—to contact us immediately.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Savannah Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit or call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. Tips can remain anonymous, and there may be a reward for information that leads to an arrest.

As the investigation continues, the Coleman family is asking for privacy and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Community members have already begun leaving candles, flowers, and messages at the scene in tribute to Darius. A vigil is being organized for later this week to honor his memory and call for peace in the community.

This tragic loss marks yet another act of gun violence in Savannah, where local leaders and residents alike continue to advocate for stronger safety measures and outreach programs to prevent future tragedies.

Darius Coleman will be remembered not just for how he died, but for how he lived—with hope, ambition, and love for those around him.
