STRATFORD, Conn. — A violent confrontation has left a community shaken and one man behind bars following a shooting incident tied to a volatile domestic dispute.
Authorities say Joseph Gray, a Stratford resident, has been arrested and is now facing multiple serious charges after allegedly opening fire on his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend during a heated altercation. The incident took place on July 25 near 143 Oakland Place, a typically quiet residential street that became the scene of chaos when an argument reportedly escalated into gunfire.
According to Stratford Police, officers were dispatched to the area after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered that a verbal argument between Gray and the 26-year-old ex-boyfriend of his current girlfriend had erupted into violence. Investigators believe the conflict was rooted in an ongoing domestic dispute. Both men are said to share children with the same woman, adding further tension to the confrontation.
During the altercation, Gray allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired 10 shots at the man. Police have not yet confirmed whether the victim was struck or the extent of any injuries, but the reckless nature of the shooting has raised serious concerns for public safety.
After an intensive investigation, Joseph Gray was arrested on August 1. He now faces a slew of charges, including:

- Illegal discharge of a firearm
Gray is currently being held at a local detention facility on a $225,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Monday, August 4, where he will answer to the charges.
The Stratford Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials noted the case highlights the dangers of unresolved domestic tensions and the importance of de-escalation in emotionally charged situations.
