Motorcyclist Killed in Fiery Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 55 South of Horseshoe Bend

BOISE COUNTY, ID – August 4, 2025 – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon has left one person dead and another injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Idaho State Police (ISP). The crash occurred at approximately 3:31 p.m. on August 3rd, on northbound State Highway 55, just south of Horseshoe Bend in Boise County.

According to preliminary reports, a 23-year-old male from Caldwell was traveling northbound on a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle when he crossed the center line of the highway for unknown reasons. At the same time, a 45-year-old male from Idaho City was driving a 2010 Honda Pilot heading southbound. The two vehicles collided head-on with catastrophic force, and the impact of the collision sparked a small brush fire near the crash site.

Despite immediate efforts from first responders, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity has not been officially released pending next-of-kin notification.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained injuries and was transported via ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. His condition has not been publicly disclosed at this time.

Due to the severity of the crash and the subsequent fire, State Highway 55 was closed for approximately three and a half hours as emergency personnel worked to secure the area, extinguish the brush fire, and assist those involved. The closure caused significant traffic delays on the heavily traveled highway, a popular route between Boise and resort destinations like McCall.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene to assist in the emergency response, including the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Horseshoe Bend Ambulance, and Acute Rescue. Idaho State Police extended their gratitude to all personnel involved for their swift and coordinated efforts.

The Idaho State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether speed or other factors may have contributed to the incident. Authorities urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or events leading up to it to contact ISP as the investigation remains active.

This tragedy marks another sobering reminder of the dangers motorists face on Idaho’s highways and underscores the importance of roadway safety and awareness. More information will be released as the investigation progresses.
