FRESNO, CA — The community is mourning the loss of Carl Johnson, a 70-year-old man tragically shot and killed in northwest Fresno on the morning of Saturday, August 2, 2025. Authorities have confirmed Johnson’s identity following a fatal shooting that occurred near the intersection of Roberts Avenue and Cleo Street.
The Incident
According to Fresno Police Department reports, Johnson was invited to a residence in the area to inspect items intended for sale during an upcoming yard sale. While at the home, an argument erupted between Johnson and 46-year-old Stewart Coleman, a resident at the property.
Details from the investigation indicate that the dispute escalated rapidly. As Johnson attempted to leave the premises, Coleman allegedly shot him. Johnson was found later in the backyard, seriously wounded.
Emergency responders transported Johnson to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
