MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has launched a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in the Cane Bay area of Summerville.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Grand View Crossing just before 3:30 p.m. on August 4, after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located a female victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. She was transported by emergency personnel to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has taken jurisdiction over the victim’s identification and will release her name pending family notification.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, law enforcement presence in the Cane Bay neighborhood has increased significantly. Deputies are canvassing the area, collecting evidence, and interviewing potential witnesses as they work to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
“We are actively investigating this tragic incident,” said a representative of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. “Our detectives are working diligently to gather the facts and ensure that the community remains safe.”
As of now, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident to come forward with information that could aid in the investigation.
Residents in the area can expect an increased law enforcement presence over the coming days, as the investigation continues to develop. Patrol units and investigative teams will remain on scene to preserve the integrity of the case and ensure the safety of the community.
