MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has charged Jeremy Lynelle Hewlett, 40, of Johns Island, in connection with the fatal shooting of Angel Capers, 38, in the Cane Bay community of Summerville. The shooting occurred on Monday, August 4, and has left the community in shock as investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the tragedy.
Deputies were dispatched to Grand View Crossing, located in the Cane Bay area, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Angel Capers deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate efforts from first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jeremy Lynelle Hewlett was taken into custody later that same day with the assistance of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Charleston Police Department. He has been formally charged with murder and booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center, where he remains in custody.
Outstanding Warrants at Time of Arrest
At the time of the fatal shooting, Jeremy Hewlett was actively being sought by the U.S. Marshals Service on multiple outstanding warrants, including:
•Criminal Solicitation of a Minor
•Two counts of Violating a Court Order of Protection
•Stalking
•Malicious Injury to Property
The new murder charge adds to an already serious list of alleged offenses, raising concerns about the ongoing threat he posed prior to his arrest.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis addressed the public following the incident, expressing both sorrow and concern over the escalating danger of domestic violence.
