HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has confirmed a tragic fatal collision that claimed the life of a 19-year-old from Wilsonville. The incident occurred on Haldimand Highway 54, prompting an extensive emergency response and temporary road closure between Onondaga Townline Road and Harrison Road.
Authorities reported that the fatal crash took place during the early hours of the morning. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene to find a severely damaged vehicle and its lone occupant—tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim, whose name has not yet been officially released pending notification of all next of kin, has been identified by the OPP as a 19-year-old resident of Wilsonville, a small rural community in Norfolk County. Police have not released specific details surrounding the circumstances of the crash but confirmed that a full investigation into the cause is underway.
Following the collision, a large section of Highway 54 was shut down for several hours as the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Forensic Identification Services worked to reconstruct the scene and determine contributing factors. As of the most recent update, the highway has been reopened, and traffic is once again moving normally in both directions.
The Haldimand County detachment of the OPP issued a heartfelt message:
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the young person whose life was lost in this heartbreaking incident,” the statement read. “We ask everyone to drive responsibly and with care—every life matters.”
