Gloria Vasquez Obituary, Death – 76-Year-Old Woman and Her Dog Killed in Hit-and-Run; Suspect Arrested

Pacoima, CA — A devastating tragedy has shaken the Pacoima community following a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 76-year-old Gloria Vasquez and her dog on Monday evening, August 4, 2025. The incident occurred just after 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of Osborne Street and Haddon Avenue, a typically busy area in the northeast San Fernando Valley.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner, Vasquez was attempting to cross Osborne Street with her dog, just west of Haddon Avenue, when she was struck by an eastbound Honda Accord. Police reported that the beloved elderly woman was not within a designated crosswalk at the time of the incident.

Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on scene within minutes, but tragically, Gloria Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene. Her dog, which also suffered severe trauma from the impact, succumbed to its injuries shortly afterward.

The driver involved in the collision, identified as Ever Marquez, a 31-year-old Pacoima resident, reportedly fled the scene without attempting to render aid or call for emergency assistance. LAPD officers, already canvassing the area in search of the suspect vehicle, successfully located the Honda Accord shortly after the crash and took Marquez into custody.

Authorities have since confirmed that Marquez was arrested on charges related to felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and further legal proceedings are expected.

As investigators from the LAPD Valley Traffic Division continue to process the evidence, Osborne Street was temporarily closed between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Haddon Avenue to allow for a thorough on-site investigation by traffic collision specialists.

Gloria Vasquez is being remembered by her family, friends, and neighbors as a gentle and loving woman who enjoyed taking evening walks with her dog. Her sudden and tragic death has sparked renewed calls in the area for improved pedestrian safety measures and heightened awareness from drivers.

“This was a preventable tragedy,” said one resident. “No family should have to go through this kind of heartbreak just because someone decided not to stop.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any relevant information, is urged to contact Detective Ramirez at the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division by calling 818-644-8025. After-hours and weekend calls can be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7, and anonymous tips can be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

As the investigation continues, the Pacoima community mourns the loss of Gloria Vasquez, a woman remembered for her warmth and quiet strength, and whose life was cut short by a senseless act of recklessness.
