Opelika Police Investigating Hit-and-Run That Injured 76-Year-Old Man on Rocky Brook Road

OPELIKA, AL — A quiet Tuesday afternoon in Opelika took a tragic turn when a 76-year-old man was struck by a vehicle near his home. The Opelika Police Department is now actively investigating the incident as a hit-and-run and is calling on the public for assistance.

According to authorities, at approximately 4:29 p.m. on August 5, 2025, Opelika Police officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle in the 2100 Block of Rocky Brook Road. The victim, a 76-year-old male whose identity has not been released pending further investigation, was reportedly standing or walking near the end of his driveway when the vehicle struck him.

Emergency medical services arrived on the scene and quickly transported the man by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia for treatment. As of now, his medical condition remains unknown.

Witnesses at the scene described the suspect vehicle as a gray SUV, possibly a Honda Pilot, that was traveling northbound on Rocky Brook Road, heading toward Morris Avenue. After striking the man, the vehicle reportedly did not stop and continued driving away from the scene, leaving the injured victim behind.
