WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Metropolitan Police Department has released the identity of the man killed in a violent triple shooting that unfolded late Tuesday night in Southeast Washington, D.C. The incident, which occurred shortly before midnight, has prompted an intense investigation and a public plea for information as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice.
Victim Identified as Devonta Bazemore
Police say the fatal shooting happened around 11:19 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5th, in the 1800 block of U Street SE. Officers responding to the scene discovered Devonta Bazemore, a 29-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Bazemore was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bazemore’s death marks yet another tragic moment in the city’s ongoing battle against gun violence. Family members and friends are now left mourning a life cut short under circumstances still under investigation.
Two Additional Victims Wounded
In addition to Bazemore, two other individuals—a man and a woman—were also shot during the incident. Both victims were found at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities have confirmed that both were conscious and breathing at the time of transport, and their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Their identities have not yet been released, and it remains unclear what relationship, if any, they had to Bazemore or to each other.
Investigation Ongoing – Motive Unclear
Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. At this time, no arrests have been made, and police have not released any suspect information or confirmed a motive. However, they have not ruled out any possibilities and are exploring leads, including whether the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute or if the victims were targeted.
A separate case involving a suspected mistaken identity killing has also drawn attention recently, though it is currently unclear if there is any connection between the two incidents.
Reward Offered for Information
As part of their efforts to solve the case, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the shooting death of Devonta Bazemore.
Community members are strongly encouraged to come forward with any information, no matter how minor it may seem.
