Three Suspects Arrested Following Late-Night Shooting on South Shelby Street

WETUMPKA, AL –The Wetumpka Police Department (WPD) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with a late-night shooting that took place Tuesday, August 5th, in a residential neighborhood. Thanks to swift action by law enforcement, the suspects were quickly identified and taken into custody, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Shots Fired on South Shelby Street

At approximately 11:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Shelby Street following multiple 911 calls reporting the sound of gunfire. When officers arrived, they discovered that an occupied home and an unoccupied vehicle had been riddled with bullets in what appears to have been a targeted attack.

According to WPD Major Josh Barfoot, the home was occupied at the time by multiple individuals, including both adults and children. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident—a fact that officials say could have easily been otherwise, given the number of rounds fired.

Arrests Made – Trio Faces Multiple Charges

Following an immediate investigation into the shooting, officers and detectives from the Wetumpka Police Department were able to develop leads that led to the arrest of three suspects:

  • Rafael Tillman
  • Christopher George Jr.
  • Daveyun Stinson

Each of the three men has been charged with two felony offenses:

  • Shooting into an occupied building
  • Shooting into an unoccupied vehicle

The suspects are currently being held at the Elmore County Jail, and further charges could be forthcoming as the investigation develops. At this time, no bond information has been released, and court records are not yet available.

No Motive Yet Determined

Investigators have not released a possible motive for the shooting. It remains unclear whether the residence or the vehicle was specifically targeted, or if the act was a result of a personal dispute, mistaken identity, or random violence. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and speaking with residents and potential witnesses.

Community Reaction & Police Statement

Local residents were left shaken by the event, especially knowing children were present inside the home. Community leaders and law enforcement officials are stressing the importance of neighborhood vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement during the investigative process.

“This could have ended in tragedy,” said Major Barfoot. “We’re extremely grateful that no one inside the home was physically harmed. However, this kind of reckless violence will not be tolerated in Wetumpka, and we are committed to holding those responsible fully accountable under the law.”

Public Assistance Still Requested

Although arrests have been made, the Wetumpka Police Department urges anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the shooting to contact investigators. Even the smallest detail could help bring clarity to the motive behind the attack and ensure all involved parties are identified.
