Community Mourns as First Responders Brave Flames to Save Dozens

FALL RIVER, MA – July 14, 2025 – Our hearts are with everyone affected by the devastating multi-alarm fire that tore through the Gabriel House assisted living facility on Oliver Street late Sunday evening. What began as a routine fire alarm call quickly turned into a catastrophic emergency that claimed multiple lives and forever changed the lives of many others.

Just before 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, Fall River Fire Department units responded to an alarm at Gabriel House. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a horrifying scene: heavy fire conditions and multiple residents trapped in upper-level windows, crying out for help.

In the face of rapidly growing flames, firefighters, police, and EMS personnel heroically sprang into action, rescuing over a dozen residents via ladders and interior search efforts. Despite these brave and tireless rescue operations, nine residents tragically lost their lives, with one other person currently in critical condition. Over 30 residents were transported to nearby hospitals, and five firefighters sustained minor injuries and were also treated.
