Dennis Burnell Identified as Suspect in Double Homicide of Brandon and Stevie Oman in Glenwood, Iowa

August 7, 2025 | Glenwood, Iowa — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is actively assisting in a homicide investigation after a deadly shooting and house fire in Glenwood .The victims were identified as 38-year-old Brandon Oman and his wife, 35-year-old Stevie Oman.

On the evening of August 6, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Mills County Emergency Communication Center received numerous 911 calls reporting a shooting and fire at 405 North Grove Street. Officers from the Glenwood Police Department, Mills County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa State Patrol responded immediately.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered the home fully engulfed in flames. Just outside the burning residence, law enforcement found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Brandon Oman was pronounced dead at the scene. Stevie Oman was transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The suspected shooter, 71-year-old Dennis Burnell, who lived at the residence on North Grove Street, was taken into custody as he exited his burning home. Authorities confirmed that Dennis Burnell sustained critical injuries during the incident and was transported to a medical facility, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators with the Glenwood Police Department, Mills County Sheriff’s Office, DCI, and the State Fire Marshal Division have determined that the violence appears to have stemmed from a personal dispute involving Dennis Burnell and the Oman couple.

At this time, no further information has been released as the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officials continue to process evidence and interview witnesses to better understand the motive behind the tragic killings of Brandon and Stevie Oman.
