BRENTWOOD, CA — The Brentwood Police Department is actively investigating a string of vandalism cases and is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying additional victims or witnesses. The suspect in question has been identified as 48-year-old Arpy Yap, a resident of Daly City.
Authorities say Yap is a person of interest in multiple incidents where female victims were targeted in public parking lots throughout the City of Brentwood. According to investigators, the women returned to their vehicles only to find their tires vandalized—either slashed or deliberately deflated.
In a troubling pattern, police say Yap approached the victims shortly after they discovered the damage, offering to help them fix their tires—for a fee. It’s believed the suspect intentionally sabotaged the tires as a scheme to extort money from unsuspecting women, most of whom were alone at the time.
Yap is known to drive a blue Volkswagen Touareg SUV equipped with a roof rack, which may have been spotted at or near several crime scenes.
The Brentwood Police Department has released a photo of Arpy Yap in hopes that it will encourage other potential victims or witnesses to come forward. This release also serves as a public safety advisory urging residents, especially women, to stay alert in parking lots and report any suspicious behavior.
If you have any information regarding these incidents, or believe you may have been a victim, please contact the Brentwood Police Department at (925) 809-7911. Callers may remain anonymous.
Brentwood Police are committed to ensuring the safety of the community and appreciate the public’s cooperation in bringing this investigation to a resolution.
