TOWN OF WYOCENA, Wis. — A tragic accident in rural Columbia County claimed the life of a 12-year-old child on Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2025.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 3:59 p.m. reporting that a youth had rolled a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) on a farm property in the Town of Wyocena. The caller reported the child was trapped beneath the overturned machine.
Deputies, along with Rio Fire Department and Rio EMS, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders determined that the child had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Sheriff Roger Brandner expressed his condolences to the family and community:
“This was a tragic incident for all involved. Our condolences go out to the family affected by this tragedy. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. These types of incidents are among the hardest that our first responders must respond to.”
The Sheriff’s Office noted the emotional toll such calls have on emergency personnel and extended gratitude to the multiple agencies that provided assistance.
The response included the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Rio Fire Department, Rio EMS, Wyocena Fire Department, and the Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Unit.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim and say no further information will be released at this time. The circumstances leading to the rollover have not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether the incident is under further investigation.
