The incident occurred at approximately 8:48 p.m. on West 74th Street, near the intersection of Linwood Avenue, an area that has now become the center of a major homicide investigation.
According to authorities, the young victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He was immediately rushed to Ochsner Health Hospital by his 19-year-old brother, who drove him there in an effort to save his life. Medical staff worked urgently to treat his serious, life-threatening injuries, but despite their best efforts, the child tragically succumbed to his wounds.
