SAN ANTONIO, TX — A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of one person early Sunday morning, prompting a major emergency response and shutting down part of Interstate 10 for several hours.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), officers were dispatched at approximately 3:14 a.m. to the intersection of IH-10 and Colorado Street, where reports indicated a serious collision involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, police found the rider unresponsive. San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) crews and EMS personnel immediately began life-saving efforts, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, pending notification of next of kin. It remains unclear what led to the crash, and investigators have not confirmed whether any other vehicles were involved.
The eastbound lanes of IH-10 were closed for several hours as SAPD Traffic Investigations Division officers examined the scene, took measurements, and collected evidence. Traffic was diverted to nearby streets, causing delays for early-morning commuters. Crews worked to clear the roadway, and all lanes were reopened later in the morning.
Officials have not released additional details on the circumstances of the accident, such as the speed of the motorcycle, weather conditions, or whether impairment is suspected. Witnesses or anyone with information about the crash are urged to contact SAPD’s Traffic Investigations Unit.
The incident marks yet another fatal motorcycle accident in San Antonio this year, underscoring ongoing safety concerns for riders on Texas highways. Authorities continue to remind drivers to remain alert and share the road, especially during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility can be limited.
Police say more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
