RENSSELAERVILLE, N.Y — Early Sunday morning, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation following a reported shooting incident in the vicinity of State Route 85 and Stewart Road in Rensselaerville. The alarming event has left the community unsettled but authorities assure the public that there is currently no ongoing threat.
Deputies were first dispatched to 749 Sickle Hill Road in the town of Berne after receiving reports of a person suffering a gunshot wound to the arm. Upon arrival, the victim was found and transported to Albany Medical Center, where officials have confirmed the individual remains in stable condition.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. The victim was driving along State Route 85 when a suspect, reportedly inside another vehicle, fired multiple rounds from an assault rifle targeting the victim’s car. Several rounds, identified as AR-15 ammunition, struck the victim’s vehicle, with one bullet injuring the victim in the arm.
Sheriff Craig Apple informed NEWS10 that the suspect’s vehicle fled the scene immediately after the shooting. However, law enforcement officials later located and recovered the vehicle in Massachusetts, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
While the Albany County Sheriff’s Office continues to actively pursue leads and gather evidence, authorities have emphasized that, at this time, they believe the public is not at risk. Investigators remain focused on uncovering the motive and circumstances behind this alarming shooting.
