Fatal Crash Investigation on State Route 295 in Lucas County

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is actively investigating a fatal traffic crash involving Savannah I. Anderson, 18, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, and David A. Sheller, 67, of McClure, Ohio, that occurred on August 9, 2025, at approximately 4:47 p.m. The collision took place at the intersection of State Route 295 (South River Road) and South Berkey Southern Road in Providence Township, Lucas County.

The crash occurred when Ms. Anderson attempted to turn left onto South Berkey Southern Road and pulled directly into the path of Mr. Sheller’s motorcycle. Emergency responders transported Mr. Sheller to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Ms. Anderson sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The intersection was temporarily closed for approximately two hours to allow emergency personnel and investigators to conduct their work. It has since been reopened to traffic.

Preliminary findings indicate that Ms. Anderson was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash, while Mr. Sheller was not wearing a motorcycle helmet. Toxicology reports and investigations have determined that drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the incident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by several agencies at the scene, including the Waterville Police Department, Waterville Township Police Department, Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Providence Township Fire & EMS, and Whitehouse EMS.

The crash remains under active investigation as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol urges all motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching intersections. Drivers should be especially vigilant for motorcycles, which can be more difficult to see, and always remember to “check twice” before making any turns. Motorcycle safety, including the use of helmets, remains a critical factor in reducing fatalities and serious injuries on Ohio’s roadways.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of David A. Sheller during this difficult time.
