GIBSON CITY, Ill. – A large and active police presence has been reported on the southwest side of Gibson City this evening, as law enforcement activity intensifies in what is believed to be part of the ongoing search for the individual accused of shooting two police officers in the city on Saturday morning.
Residents in the area reported seeing numerous law enforcement vehicles, including both marked and unmarked units, converging on parts of the southwest side shortly before 9 p.m. Officers appeared to be actively canvassing the area, though officials have not yet confirmed whether any progress has been made in locating the suspect.
According to information available, the incident is likely connected to the Saturday morning shooting that left two Gibson City police officers injured. Both officers were taken to the hospital following the attack, and while their current conditions have not been officially updated, initial reports indicated that at least one was critically wounded. The suspect in that shooting has been considered armed and dangerous, prompting a multi-agency manhunt.
WCIA viewers shared photos from the scene around 8:56 p.m., showing emergency lights illuminating the otherwise quiet residential streets. State police, local law enforcement, and other assisting agencies have remained tight-lipped, and as of this evening, no official updates have been released regarding the suspect’s whereabouts or any possible arrests.
Officials have urged residents in and around Gibson City to remain vigilant, avoid the active search area, and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately. Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Illinois State Police or local law enforcement.
We have reached out to state police for updates, but as of now, no additional details have been provided. This is a developing story, and further information will be shared as it becomes available.
