Tragedy in Frederica: Remembering Ethan Christensen and Linda Hyman

The Delaware community is reeling after a heartbreaking tragedy claimed the lives of three family members in what authorities have confirmed was a murder-suicide. Delaware State Police have identified the victims as 18-year-old Ethan Christensen and 81-year-old Linda Hyman, both of whom were fatally shot on the night of August 6, 2025, in the High Point Park mobile home community on Lorna Drive near Frederica.

Police also named 53-year-old Staci Marie Christensen as the shooter, who took her own life after killing her son and mother. Although investigators have not publicly confirmed their family relationships, details from a GoFundMe created by Staci’s surviving children indicate that Ethan was her son and Linda was his grandmother.

Authorities discovered the three family members around 11 p.m. on August 6 during a welfare check. Officials have not disclosed what prompted the check, nor have they provided any insight into a possible motive. The absence of answers has deepened the sorrow felt by neighbors and friends, who are struggling to make sense of the devastating loss.

Ethan Christensen is remembered as a young man with a bright future, whose kindness and good nature left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. Friends and teachers have described him as compassionate, intelligent, and driven — someone who approached life with optimism and care for others.

Linda Hyman, a beloved grandmother and matriarch, was known for her warmth, patience, and devotion to her family. Those close to her recall her as the heart of the home, a guiding presence whose wisdom and love shaped generations.

The loss of Ethan and Linda has left their surviving family members and the Frederica community in deep mourning. Friends and neighbors have placed flowers and candles near the residence, creating a quiet space for reflection and remembrance.

While the investigation continues, Delaware State Police are asking anyone with information that may assist in understanding this tragedy to contact Detective Alan Bluto at 302-741-2859.

This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the profound fragility of life and the importance of reaching out to loved ones in times of crisis. Ethan and Linda’s memory will live on through the stories, love, and legacy they leave behind. May they rest in peace.
