The King County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Monday that Sathyanathan succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head, and officially classified his death as a homicide.
According to law enforcement reports, the incident unfolded around 8:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of the 15800 block of Northup Way, when officers responded to calls about a man allegedly charging at individuals with a sword at an apartment complex. The shooting is currently under investigation by King County’s Independent Force Investigation Team, tasked with providing an impartial review of law enforcement use-of-force incidents. Both Sgt. Walker and Bellevue Police Department spokesperson Drew Anderson refrained from providing additional details about the specific circumstances leading to the shooting or information regarding the officers involved. The police department did not confirm the fatal shooting publicly until nearly 18 hours after the incident occurred, adding to community concerns and calls for transparency.
