Castle Shannon Police Honor Beloved Canine Officer “Dixon” Following His Passing

The Castle Shannon Police Department is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Canine Officer “Dixon” on August 11, 2025, following an unexpected illness. Born on October 20, 2016, in the Czech Republic, Dixon was a German Shepherd whose unwavering loyalty and dedication made him an indispensable member of the Castle Shannon law enforcement family.

Dixon was carefully selected by his handler, Officer Justin Majors, in December 2017, and underwent rigorous training at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. Officially introduced to the Castle Shannon community at a Borough Council meeting on February 12, 2018, Dixon proudly carried on the legacy of his predecessors, Canine Officers “Xato,” “Nitro,” and “Riad,” serving with distinction and commitment.

Throughout his career, Dixon assisted in numerous investigations, searches, and community outreach events, showcasing the unique bond between handler and K-9 partner. His keen instincts and bravery contributed significantly to the safety and security of Castle Shannon residents.

The Castle Shannon Police Department extends heartfelt gratitude to Dixon for his years of faithful service, as well as to Officer Majors and his family for their dedication and sacrifices in supporting Dixon’s career. Dixon’s passing leaves a profound void in the department and community.
