MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 44-year-old Memphis man is facing serious charges after authorities say he orchestrated a horrifying attack on his wife, allegedly instructing another person to set her vehicle on fire while she was still inside.
The suspect, identified as Travis Davidson, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and reckless endangerment in connection with the incident, which occurred more than a week ago on North Second Street in Memphis.
According to investigators, the woman was sitting inside her car when she heard her husband’s voice over the vehicle’s Bluetooth system. She told police that Davidson was speaking to an accomplice, instructing them to “set it on fire.” Moments later, a man allegedly began pouring gasoline onto the car.
Fearing for her life, the woman managed to escape through the passenger-side window just as the attack was unfolding. Neighbors, alarmed by the commotion and the smell of gasoline, quickly came outside and saw the aftermath. They immediately called 911, prompting a swift police response.
Authorities say Davidson is the only individual arrested so far in the case, but the search for the alleged accomplice is ongoing.
Court records indicate that Travis Davidson and his wife have been married for nearly six years. Police have not released a possible motive, though the investigation remains active.
The victim was not physically injured in the incident but was left shaken by the ordeal. Community members have expressed shock and concern over the brazenness of the attack, with many praising the woman’s quick thinking and the neighbors’ rapid call for help.
Davidson is currently being held pending court proceedings. Detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident or the second suspect’s whereabouts to contact the Memphis Police Department or CrimeStoppers.
